I’m a sucker for freebie, who isn’t ?

As I’ve been eyeing the hardware version of TC’s Polytune for a while now I was excited to see a port to the iPhone. In common with all Apple’s “apps” this should mean it works on the iPod touch and the iPad as well. Considering the price, or lack of and TC’s pedigree it is obviously a must have. So I downloaded it and out it through it’s paces.

The unique selling point of the hardware ( and software ) version is you can tune polyphonically ( many notes ) whereas most tuners are monophonic ( one note ). With the Polytune you can strum all six ( or four for Bass ) strings at once and get an “at a glance” view of which strings are flat or sharp.

If you pick one string at a time you get a standard tuner view.

The Polytune app also has facilities for drop tunings and to set a reference pitch other than the traditional A440.

Having given the app a quick try I can attest that it does what it says on the tin with the added bonus of the polyphonic mode. Polyphonically it gives you a great overview as to which strings are out and in the monophonic mode it’s as good as any iPhone guitar tuner I’ve tried.

Download it here and give it a go, you literally have nothing to lose.
